Persona Webcam: Virtual Camera 4+

Very happy I found this app (App Store discoverability is just awful). The app works successfully for me between my MacBook Pro M1 and AVP. I noticed some lag initially, but it eventually evened out. I have several mild-to-moderate complaints. First, the Persona Webcam app on the Mac has a toggle that says you need to add networking permission, but there is no specific indication of where you need to do that, nor can I find any place to toggle the permission in System Settings. But it worked anyway—the toggle remained unchecked, but my Mac showed up in the Persona Webcam app on the AVP. Second, there is virtually no help in the app other than a couple of single phrases in the UI. The Help menu doesn’t provide any help, nor even point to a simple web page with details. I would suggest adding more information about how the app works, maybe a diagram, an FAQ and troubleshooting guide, and just being generally more transparent to help folks get it running smoothly. Third, there are 3 tabs in the AVP app that are undocumented. The first one shows a static model of a DSLR-style camera. The second tab shows your live Persona. The third tab shows what looks like a blank viewfinder but doesn’t seem to do anything at all. It all goes back to the gap in documentation; my best guess is that these tabs are just alternate look-and-feel with no real functionality. Finally, the position of the camera relative to the persona is based on the placement of the app window in your AVP view, but the window can get in the way since you’ll generally want the camera right in front of you. It would be preferable to set the camera position separate from the window, or at least lock it in once you have the placement you want. Regardless of these complaints, I found the in-app purchase price of $4.99 to be reasonable for this functionality now, even though I eventually expect Apple to provide this feature out of the box.

This app is great. Works flawlessly. The trick is to open the Persona Webcam app on your Mac first then open it on your Vision Pro and select your Mac to connect. Make sure you’re on the same WiFi network if having issues (presumably, I personally never have issues with it).

I’ve been waiting for something like this since the launch of Vision Pro. My company has a “cameras on” policy, which makes using Google Meet a problem in Safari on visionOS (It’s stuck in vertical mode). Now I can stay in Vision Pro and join company/client meetings!
