The Bathroom App findspublic restrooms near you

  • The Bathroom App helps you find public restrooms. We also include businesses (cafes, restaurants, bars, etc.) with bathrooms open to the public.
  • We tag bathrooms with a long list of important details and you can filter by them. This includes hours, cleanliness ratings, distance, gender, amenities and business type.
  • Photos, bathroom codes and other important details are inlcuded if available. And since we are crowdsourced, you can add or edit any details if they're missing or incorrect.
  • We collect bathroom data ourselves manually and through public resources. However, we also rely on user input to add new bathrooms or edit any incorrect data on existing bathrooms.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Currently, yes. But we're working on expanding to other major cities in the US and eventually globally. You can help us come to your city by adding bathrooms in your area.
    1. Publicly available data. Local governments or public services will typically provide public bathroom data, which serves as a starting point for us.
    2. Manual data collection. We identify establishments where anyone can use the bathroom. We only list them on our platform if we've been given access without requiring a purchase. Though, it is good etiquette to purchase something if you're using the establishments bathroom.
    3. User input. We're a crowdsourced platform. New bathrooms are opening and existing ones are closing/changing constantly, so we feel that this is the most sustainable approach. Any user-submitted data is manually reviewed and verified by us.
  • We're not happy with the current solutions and feel that Google Maps and existing toilet finder apps only partially solve the problem due to a lack of crowdsourcing elements, bad data or not enough data.

The Bathroom App's goal is to be reliable, sustainable and plentiful in bathroom data. We believe there are enough bathrooms for everyone, you just need to know where to look.

  • The Bathroom app is currently free with our main focus being to solve the problem of bathroom accessibility. To create a long-term sustainable product, we will need some kind of monetization - we're just not sure what that will look like yet.
  • We are available on iOS but not on Android (yet). If you're on Android, we recommend using the browser and bookmarking the website or adding it to your home screen. All functionality is available in the browser.

PHLUSH Logo

PHLUSH (Public Hygiene Lets Us Stay Human) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for equitable access to public sanitation facilities across the United States. Founded in 2005 in Portland, Oregon, PHLUSH has played a pivotal role in developing public restroom design that balances safety, accessibility, and maintenance efficiency. Beyond Portland, PHLUSH collaborates with local governments and community groups nationwide to promote the importance of public restrooms and to prepare for sanitation emergencies using appropriate ecological toilet systems. Their mission underscores the belief that public restrooms and safely managed sanitation are as essential to community well-being as roads and traffic signals. PHLUSH believes that toilet availability is a human right and that well-designed sanitation systems restore health to our cities, our waters, and our soils.
