Description

Voicepaper is a simple text-to-speech app that lets you listen to books, novels, and web articles on the go. It's perfect for exam study and language learning. It's also free to use with no ads.

Voicepaper is popular with:

• Business People

Listen to novels and business books during your commute. Import PDFs and web articles to gather information by ear. You can switch the playback speed up to 3x with one touch—and even speed it up further.

• Students Who Study Efficiently

Convert study materials into text using camera or screenshots. Use repeat playback for memorization, and create playlists from your own texts to play them in sequence.

• Language Learners

The app highlights the text as it plays, so you can read along while listening to pronunciation. Even when texts mix multiple languages—such as English and Japanese translations—you can alternate playback between languages.

• People Who Get Tired of Reading

Capture text from books or e-books with screenshots. Enjoy audio reading while walking so your eyes don't get tired. You can also enlarge the text size and double-tap to start playback from a specific position, allowing you to switch between "reading" and "listening."

What’s New

Version 3.3.5

Hello, my back pain is getting worse.

This time, we have several good improvements.

- Fixed the order issue with photo recognition again

- Discontinued the default voice pause settings

- Other minor fixes

First, we fixed the issue where the order of text recognition for multiple photos was misaligned. We thought we had completely fixed this in a previous update, but it seems some bugs remained, so we are reviewing them.

Next, in the previous update, we added automatic voice pauses at punctuation marks, but there were many inconveniences, and many users preferred not having this feature, so we've quickly discontinued it.

We think it's better for each user to add their own pause list and customize the pauses at punctuation marks as they prefer.

We've also made several other small improvements.

If you like the app, we would be happy if you could leave a review.

See you next time!

Great App for Listening to Articles

I use this app every single day. I had to create a pocket app account and link it to that which took about 3 minutes, and then I was able to start sharing news articles or websites to pocket directly from my phone, or from the pocket google chrome extension on my computer. Then I open this app, and all those saved articles are available to listen to at whatever speed I want.

Great app.

Developer Response ,

I also save web articles on Pocket, just like you, and listen to them on the go. This is why I started learning iPhone programming about 15 years ago. I'm glad to hear that you also appreciate this habit, which nobody around me seemed to understand when I started developing it.

Disappointed.

I used to have the Lisgo text to voice app and I loved it. It was easy to use after I contacted the developer to find out the mysterious secret about how to get items from Pocket to Lisgo.

The Lisgo app recommended Voicepaper because of a needed upgrade.

I think the Lisgo developer might be the Voicepaper developer? Voicepaper is completely non-intuitive for me. It splits one article into many sections so that your list of articles becomes huge. But there is no search feature that I could find to help me wade through the articles I have collected over the years from Pocket.

It appears they want me to create my own playlists. That’s okay if you start from nothing. But I had a huge collection of articles already from Lisgo/Pocket and Pocket was organized through the MyList/Archive feature to allow easier control over what showed up in Lisgo.

In my opinion, the video instructions for Voicepaper do not take you step by step in a clear manner.

Everything in my Voicepaper is now a mess. Pulling articles from Pocket is not clear. I am very discouraged and sad. I used to put on Lisgo and listen for hours while I worked or rested.

My response to this mess was to sign up for Audible Books. I LOVE Audible and they offer a free newspaper with the subscription. But I still miss Lisgo.

Developer Response ,

Hello, I developed Voicepaper because updating Lisgo became unfeasible with the changes to iOS7's text-to-speech system. Voicepaper has received updates for more than 6 years and has significantly improved from its initial version. I hope you'll consider giving it another try when you have a moment.

Indispensable!

Voicepaper is a critical part of my daily workflow. I try to keep up on all the news and blogs I can so that I can share what’s most valuable with my community, but I don’t want to spend my time reading a screen. Voicepaper reads to me while I’m driving or showering. The integration with Pocket is smooth, the interface is decent, and the text-to-speech is highly accurate.

Developer Response ,

I also save blog and news articles to Pocket and use them with Voicepaper while I'm weight training, running, or walking. Evernote's Web Clipper is also handy for web articles that require login, so you might want to give it a try.
