Inspiring read with tactical advice
This book came at the perfect time for me. The series of interviews are inspiring as someone building a side business but I also really appreciated the tactical advice. There were chapters that left me thinking "ok, this is what I can do today to move my business forward." It also challenged me to think differently about how to structure both my freelance business and my side business. The format of the book is great for someone who doesn't have a ton of time to read because you can pick up at any chapter and skip around depending on what you're most interested in at that moment!

The interviews alone are worth the cost of the book as it helped me see how different people from around the globe have started up their own freelance businesses. But what I also find helpful were the little gems of services and websites that are mentioned throughout the book. Many of them I hadn't heard of and this helped broaden my experience and see how I can make money in ways I hadn't even thought possible. Well worth the price!

I’ve read many books on running a creative business and this one is, by far, my favorite. Well written, easy to read, and without much unnecessary filler. It really makes you think about how to broaden your opportunities and income without really forcing you out of your comfort zone.

This is a very inspiring book that focuses on how hard you need to work to make a side business successful and the rewards when you do. A lot of inspiring stories.

While the book isn't "bad" it isn't good if you like to learn from interviews that weren't specifically JUST ftom woman...

I love this! A book full of creative rebel stories makes me think anything is possible.

Thanks, Monika, for this amazing resource. :)

This is such a thoroughly researched book and you really do live through its pages. It has an easy and friendly language and I feel like everything in its pages has been written especially for me. It is motivating and capturing and personally I found it an excellent occasional coffee-read. You can pick it up and skim it and still get something useful to push you through the day and get your creative juices flowing.
At times I abandoned it for intermittent whiles, since the fact that it is essentially a collection of personal accounts and interviews made it a bit too dense to get through in a continuous mode, but it is also not my usual style so, I think I can be forgiven for that.
Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed it, filled it with post-its (I don't write on books) and went back to read my favourite bits at times.

This book was just what I needed to help me rethink my approach to all the "side" projects I was doing. If you have a creative skill and are willing to work hard on the business side of things, this book will give you tangible examples of how other women are successfully making a living through sustainable creative businesses. Read every chapter- even the ones you think are so different from your business that they won't pertain to you. Some of the most insightful statements and actionable changes I made came from chapters by women in industries that I had assumed I'd find interesting but not relatable. Be sure to have a sketchbook handy because you'll walk away from each chapter with new ideas for your business. Looking forward to more from Monika Kanakova in the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Making money from doing what we love is a dream of anyone who involves themselves in ...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 21, 2016
The follow up to This Year Will Be Different: The insightful guide to becoming a freelancer Monika further explores the concept of making headway in the creative industries. Inside My Creative (Side) Business it focuses upon taking a project you may only be doing as a hobby (and most creatives-types have at least one work in progress lying around if we're honest) and try to have it make actual money.

Making money from doing what we love is a dream of anyone who involves themselves in a creative venture and chapter by chapter My Creative (Side) business explores how to do this in a way that that endures.

Anyone familiar with Monika's original book will recognise the familiar Q & A format with a series of people who have experience of the same thing you need to gain from the chapter. They present their stories in an open and easy to follow style and Monika's questioning technique does make it easy for you to pinpoint or highlight a section you might want to go back to.

All in all a good book for firing your imagination and getting that project you've been meaning to finish and actually doing something you will enjoy in a way that might actually benefit you.

5.0 out of 5 stars eine art arbeitsbuch was sich wie ein unterhaltsamer abend voller nützlicher tipps von inspirierenden fempreneuren liest
Reviewed in Germany on June 23, 2017
When you think about it, every time someone sees your CV, they learn all about your past, but a side project helps showcase where you’re heading. Your side project is your entrance ticket to wherever you want to go in the future." ich freue mich schon auf das nächste buch und hoffe die lektüre inspiriert euch genauso wie mich.

Being honest, I buy a lot of design- help books and never finish them, this book is different ! I have not put it down! This book is a brilliant insight into creative businesses for those starting off like myself. The paper is also thicker so you can highlight and write in the book as you go through and I love how it has been divided into sections with the cute illustrations. I would recommend this book to any creative who is thinking about starting their own business ! Fabulous book !

I highly recommend this book to all who are - like me - starting out in some sort of creative entrepreneurship. I love reading about the experiences of other creatives, and I find that this is probably one of the best ways to learn. It's like going back to school without actually having to go back to school. I love people who share their journey to help out others. Happy reading!
