Traditional marketing is dying, fast. The Internet has made it so that money is no longer the biggest marketing advantage— combining data, product, and marketing to build a strong community around a brand is. The days of press releases and billboards are gone, and the days of giving customers the tools to talk about a product are here. By making it simpler for customers to talk about a product, it becomes easier to accomplish explosive growth and quickly build a business that triumphs. Hacking Growth is a journey through the mind of the type of marketers who have made companies such as Tinder, Facebook, Buffer, and Dropbox successful by spending very little money. It’s about using the hacker mindset to come up with untraditional marketing tactics that exploit holes in systems as they currently exist for intellectual, creative, and business gain. By adopting this new marketing mentality, marketers can achieve impressive business results and have the most fun they’ve ever had building a business.

Alex Kehr has written a book about community building that is neither Marketing top-heavy nor Business top-heavy. A great balance of common sense and unexpected instructions on how to grow not just a community, but an engaged and loyal community.

The narrative portions of the book are entertaining and, somehow, are also informative about the mindset and attitude needed to truly grow a committed community. The instructional portions of the book are clear, concise and, most importantly, actionable.

I read the whole book the day I got it. I am sure it will be something I will return to over and over as I grow my developer community.

I highly recommend this book. If you have ever wanted to promote a site or product and thought, "I will just post a funny video and it will go viral", (1) Good luck, you probably won't get the results you hoped for (2) Get this book.

It is full of specific steps to get you customers, and then subsequently have those customers get you more customers. It is relatively short, but that is because it is direct and to-the-point.

If you are a company and want to get your team on the same page when it comes to marketing strategy, grab them each a copy.

Great quick read. Got my brain going and I highly recommend it.

If you have little to no experience with the Lean Startup, growth hacking or online marketing this book provides a nice 36,000 foot view to get you started.

It provides a very general view of rapid business growth. However, if you are looking for a well-organized or detailed guide to growth hacking, there are better options.

Good for beginners, but if you are already in the area of growth hacking yourself, it offers a very introductory way. Strategy yes, tactics none.

If you are very new to marketing, this might be more for you. Honestly, most of the ideas were kinda marketing 101 and really nothing to do with growth hacking.
