Babies manifest intelligence upon birth. Learning how to walk and communicate are evidence that intelligence existed in a person before there is language. This innate skill has a lot to do with human's ability to learn new things from the environment without using language. This discovery is critical to the understanding the 'what' and the 'how' of human intellect.
Through our research on the subject, we have unearthed the mechanics involved in human learning. Human learning is manifested as internalized abstraction on unknown symbols that relate to other known symbols.
We designed and implemented this hypothesis into software. We named this new technology 'Abstractive Symbolic Logic'. Our R&D effort has become Project ELAINE or English Language AI NLU Enablement. An API to this software platform is created to render generalize understanding of narratives by following similar process exercised by a person in learning new things. Simply submit a written narrative via this API, it automates the analysis process and returns a JSON structure that depicts a knowledge map by connecting keywords between abstractions and stories and shortens the time for building knowledge applications for due diligence, strategic planning, knowledge retaining applications, and managing complex narratives.
Symbolic Logic is not new. It has existed two thousands years ago. It is a philosophy and a manifestation of wisdom when applied to information. Its advantage was articulated by Lewis Carroll in 1897 in a few words:
"Once master the machinery of Symbolic Logic, and you have a mental occupation always at hand, of absorbing interest, and one that will be of real use to you in any subject you may take up. It will give you clearness of thought--the ability to see your way through a puzzle--the habit of arranging your ideas in an orderly and get-at-able form--and, more valuable than all, the power to detect fallacies, and to tear to pieces the flimsy illogical arguments, which you will so continually encounter ..."
-Lewis Carroll on the Advantages of Symbolic Logic (1897)
Traditional Symbolic Logic or Formal Logic does not handle abstraction, making it difficult to deal with real world narrative. LLM missed the concept all together since it relies on the premise of language. With Abstractive Symbolic Logic, any corpus can be reversed back to the notion or abstraction that the author has in mind before expressing it in a narrative using Natural Language. We called that image of knowledge as 'knowledge map'.
ELAINE is an implementation of symbolic logic - using abstraction to understand human communications in natural language without pre-learned or pre-trained process.
ELAINE discovers facts, identifies the causation and consequential reasoning to augment human intelligence
It automates the discovery of rationale, facts, supporting facts, and relationships between facts to provide clarity at a glance
It provides analysis from different vantage points:
By submitting a written narrative via ELAINE's API, it automates the analysis process and returns a JSON structure that depicts a knowledge map by connecting keywords between abstractions and stories. It shortens the time for building knowledge applications, whether it is for due diligence, strategic planning, knowledge retaining applications, or managing complex narratives.
