- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2015Great study of LA's startup culture and the major organizations involved. It's filled with great interviews with entrepreneurs, journalists and other players that make up the startup 'tribes' that dot the LA landscape. After reading this book you have a good road-map to finding help and community for your startup.
I was surprised to learn how little LA still gets out of the investor pot, with the most cash still going to Silicon Valley and NY. The book discusses the elements that are shaping the culture here - the kind of money, the focus on media, celebrity cash, etc. We're small but growing fast.
It also helped me understand why Google, Apple and Microsoft are making it so hard to find a decent apartment in Santa Monica.
Recommended for anyone who interacts with the LA startup community and wants to learn how the startup economy works (including funding types, incubators, accelerators, etc).
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2015A must read for everybody working in or for the LA start-up scene. It's mind blowing how much has changed in the past few years, how much significance places like Santa Monica, DTLA or Culver City have gained. Lee's book was an eye opener to me how far Los Angeles has come already. As a branding and design firm, we work a lot with entrepreneurs and start-ups, and Lee's book has given me a lot of insight about who's who in that arena. Highly recommended if you want to tap into that market.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2015A must read for anyone interested in the LA tech community. It's the most comprehensive coverage of the history, companies, and players in the LA tech community. You're not going to get a better overview anywhere.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2015Lee has taken an extensive amount of time to carefully research and break down the LA Startup community. He explores how Los Angeles in a quick 3-5 years gained the growth it has today. He's a great guy, committed to this project and someone to follow.
