- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2017Our company purchased this book for all our managers. It is a great tool that gives managers at all levels a solid foundation for tailoring their interviewing style. Feedback from our managers was positive. Most of the time, the basic interview questions are asked by hiring managers. How do you move beyond the questions that give back basic replies and commonplace answers and get to the REAL answers you're looking for? This book will help you craft your questions so that you get the information you need to determine if a candidate will be a good hire.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2019Love this book...of course you shouldn't ask or be asked all 96 but it's got a lot of great things to think about. If you have an interview coming up, highly recommend you read this. You can get the answers in your head instead of fumbling around for the answer. As an interviewer, I would definitely select some of these that are off the grid of typical interview questions...you will uncover some interesting things about the candidate!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2018Bought this book to help with my interviewing style and to make sure I am getting the most out of each interview. I use it more for a guide of what I should ask in an interview but there are a lot of helpful questions, including answers you should be looking for and what to watch out for. I found it very helpful and informative.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2019Easy to read and understand. Appreciate the reasoning behind each question and what it means when they answer a certain way.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2012This is a good book if you conduct interviews. This book is a great resource for managers and HR professionals. It helps you brush up on your interview techniques and highlights how to conduct an interview. I would recommend this book for anyone who needs a quick "how to" interview guide.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2013It provides a good template for questions that are not your ordinary run of the mill type. If mediocrity is your goal, keep using the same old questions, if progress in your organization is important, learn to incorporate this book into your questioning procedure.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2013I bought this to help prepare myself for a job interview, and it was very helpful in thinking about the questions I would be asked. It is written for HR folks, but was easy to read and understand.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2021I've interviewed a lot of people and this will be a helpful reference for all future hires.

1.0 out of 5 stars I would recommend using google for your interview preparation
There are 96 questions on this book and you can find most of them on google. If you are students or job seekers, I would recommend using google for your interview preparation. However, if you are recruiters, I would like to say your time and tell you that this book is filled with shallow opinion and BxxxSxxx.
Let `s see the example
QUESTIONS 32 WHY DO YOU CHOOSE YOUR MAJOR ?
Why ask this question?
Let `s be practical, because most larger universities probably offer close to one hundred majors from which to choose. the four with the most direct real life practical application are engineering, pre-med, computer, science and business. does that mean that those economics, German, anthropology majors have little to offer ? of course not, as a matter of fact, study after study has been published regarding which students fare better in business. those with liberal arts orientations or those with specialty degrees. Keep in mind, however that unless you are hiring for one of the big 4 accounting firms. you will have about a 95% chance of interviewing students with majors that have little relevance to your direct line of business., so employing this query will allow you to tunnel inside their heads for a moment and gauge what interestgs them and why.
Part of the reason I bought this book is becasue its review on amazon. I really really dont understand why someone said this book is so popular and he has to take it to home because everybody wants to borrow it ? Apparently. those reviews are all FAKE !

2.0 out of 5 stars Should be called 64 poor questions including some that could land you in trouble
If you are buying this book to help improve your interview skills then don't, it's not worth it.
Here's why.
1 It takes 230 pages to give you the 96 questions - thats a lot of reading
2 If you do take the time to read the whole thing you'll find that not much effort has gone into the questions (example: Q2 is "what's your greatest weakness". Please don't ever use this question, it hugely favour's people who are good at elaborating on their feet (otherwise known as BS) and does not help you predict how this candidate is likely to perform in the future. It would be much better to ask " What areas of your skills are you working on? and follow it up with " Tell me what you've done so far" You'll learn where they feel least confident and how determined they are in overcoming these challenges.
3 A number of studies have shown that the most effective interview questions are those that seek out real examples of the experience, attitude or behaviour that is key to performing well in the role you're hiring for. Very few of the questions in this book do that.
Other terrible questions included in this book:
- How many employees were laid off simultaneously?
- How many people survived the cut
- How many waves of layoffs did you survive before you were let go your-self
- I see you've had a tango or two at the job hoppers ball. Let's discuss how you plan on building your resume from a longevity standpoint (so this implies that a negative bias has already been formed, without investigating why this person might have moved jobs, which could be for any number of perfectly legitimate reasons)
- How effective is this person at orchestrating a corporate ensemble of functional areas (this is a question for use when taking a reference on the candidate.... I forgot to mention, from question 65 onwards the questions are for asking their referee when taking a reference. So you don't even get 96 candidate interview questions !
